Eye Primer

Use a face primer religiously to make your make-up go smooth and last forever? Well…if you love your face primers so much, it is a no brainer that you’re going to love eye primers too. These tiny wizards possess the capability of making your eye shadow colours enhance like never before and adhere to your eyes for the longest of times.

Do you ever look at yourself in the mirror at the end of the night and think to yourself what happened to your eye make-up? The wing eyeliner, glitter eyeshadow and mascara have blended perfectly together into a decorous mess. If yes, you most probably need one product-an eye primer. An eye primer works as a bridge between your skin and your eye make-up, making it pop out and look vivid.

Eye make-up usually smudges a lot due to the creases on the upper lid and lower lid of the eyes. The products applied get deposited in these creases making the entire look go awfully wrong. This is where the eye primer comes in handy. It filles the creases itself, holding the products that you apply in place. It is a necessary product because it works on the longevity of your eye make-up. It is often overlooked and replaced with concealers as concealers are also used to get a smooth canvas. But, the difference between a concealer and a face primer is the exact difference between an eye primer and a concealer. A primer fills the gaps on the skin, making it smooth and eradicating the texture. This, exactly is the function of the eye primer, just focused on the eye area.

Why Should I Use an Eye Primer?

If you are someone who loves experimenting with eye make-up then you should, at least for once, invest in an eye primer and observe the difference that it brings to your make-up. Given below are the most prominent roles of this unsung hero.

  • As opposed to a concealer, which interferes with the skin tone and can make the eye shadow pigments look dull, an eye primer brings out the vibrancy of the colour of your eye shadow while it will even out the tone of the eyelids.
  • Your eyelids generally don’t have sebaceous glands which makes them naturally dry to put make-up on. Applying a powdered eye shadow on these dry eyelids can be frustrating. An eye primer usually comes in a cream base, giving the eye shadow something to stick upon.
  • In contrast to the dry skin people, someone who has oily skin can face the issue of too much oil on the eye lids as well. This extra secreted oil smudges the best of your make up in no time, thus, an eye primer helps in maintaining the eye look as it doesn’t let the oil on the skin interfere with your make-up.

Can I Skip the Eye Primer?

There are some steps in the make-up routine that can be skipped, with no major fallout of the finish. But eye primers shouldn’t be one of them. It is quite evident to every make-up enthusiast that eye make-up looks take a long time and a certain amount of hard work to come into form. Therefore, eye primers are absolutely necessary if you want your look to last throughout the day into the night. It extends the life of your hard work and keeps the worry of creasing, flakiness and smudging at bay. Even if you are someone who is not a fan of applying heavy eye-make-up you can wear a tinted eye primer for a light tint and exaggeration of the eye lids.

How Do I Apply the Eye Primer?

The next point to highlight is the application. Just like face primer, an eye primer application involves some key steps for its maximum benefits. Read on to find out.

  • Just like any other make-up product, start with a clean face. Wash away the oil and dirt on your face so that the make-up application can be smooth and look fresh.
  • If you have dry skin apply the moisturizer on the eye lids as well. This will give you skin that doesn’t flake. If you have oily skin, you can skin the eyelids. Post this, apply a mustard seed size of eye primer on each eyelid and blend with your fingers.
  • After it sets, apply your eye make-up directly on the eye primer. You can use some amount of the eye primer on the lower lash line as well if you wish to apply make-up on it.
  • After you are finished with your eye make-up, complete the process with a finishing powder to lock it in and you are done!

Face Primer vs. Eye Primer

The primary difference that a face primer and an eye primer possess is of the formula. The face primers usually have a silicone-based formula which makes the skin appear smooth and covers the texture. A smooth base is useful in applying base make-up such as a concealer and foundation. Whereas, if applied on the lids, a face primer can give a too smooth base for the eye shadow, making the application slippery. It can add to creasing as well making it difficult to blend the products.

Eye primers are cream based and are specifically formulated to use around the eyes, and that is why impart the right amount of smoothness. They just prevent creasing and pop out the colour. Since it grabs the make-up, thanks to the slight grip it contains, it’s consistency wouldn’t work well on the face.
